Thunderbird Gmail Authentication Method
An App password is a 16-digit access code that gives permission to an application or device to access your Google account. If you use two-step verification and see an “incorrect password” error when you try to access your Google account, a password from the application may resolve the problem. Most of the time, you only have to enter a password for the application once per application or device, so do not worry about memorising it.
- Visit the password page for your application. You may be asked to sign in to your Google account.
- At the bottom, click on the Select application and choose the application you are using.
- Click on Select device and choose the device you are using.
- Choose Generate.
- Follow the instructions to enter the application password (the 16-character code in the yellow bar) on your device.
- Select Done.
Once you have finished, you will not see the application’s password code again. However, you will see a list of applications and devices for which you have created passwords for the application.
