Thunderbird stores your data in a separate location, away from the program files application called your profile folder. Store data without tension to feel safe and secure. It stores data in profile directory. To move your data, copy your profile folder to the location on your destination computer follow these simple steps.

Move Thunderbird Mails or profile Data

  • Go to RUN box and type “%AppData%” and press enter
  • Now the Appdata folder will open and search  a sub folder
  • Copy the full folder and move it on location you wish
  • Go under Appdata and delete Thunderbird folder

Please carefully complete these steps before deleting the folder

  • Now go to edit “profile.in” to change Thunderbird profile location
  • Go to under “%AppData% and find your file “profile.in”
  • Open your file and make the changes

Launch Thunderbird and change the paths of Local folder and message storage

  • After launching click on the tools, go to advanced settings
  • Click on each folder and change the path to go new profile location
  • Go to “cmd “prompt and “cd” to installation directory 
  • Command will launch profile manager
  • Remove the profile and create a new profile and change  profile location

Move Thunderbird to New Computer

  • Go to menu and then help
  • Select troubleshooting information
  • Click on open folder then close Thunderbird
  • Go p three levels from profile folder
  • Click right on folder and select copy
  • Go to drive and click then select paste
  • Click right on back up folder and select copy
  • Open Thunderbird and close account set up window
  • Click on menu and go to help
  • Now select troubleshooting information
  • Click on open the again close
  • Go to profile and three levels
  • Click right inside folder and select on paste
  • Now choose to replace your all data

Sending Message

  • Go to the Thunderbird toolbar
  • Click on write to open the write window

  • Change the port number 465 or 587, many ISPs block the outgoing email from port 25

Delete SMTP Password

  • Install the latest version
  • Now send an email to check the problem
  • If there is problem, select tools then options
  • Go to wizard and click on security then password
  • Delete the SMTP password and configure the email account again
  • Now send the email again to check the problem

Reset SMTP Password
